Skamania Lodge Wedding- Sheena & Kelly

I had the honor of photographing Sheena & Kelly’s intimate wedding at Skamania Lodge and it was perfect. The warm sun was on our side for this very beautiful evening wedding, their ceremony placed right where the view is magnificent! What more can you ask for? Their details were simple and elegant, colors of deep pinks, greens and who says you cant wear black to a wedding? Sheena chose to wear black shoes with her beautiful wedding gown and I think it gives it an added elegance to the whole look.

Sheena & Kelly, thank you for being you! Love you both!!

Oregon Vineyard Wedding Photographer- Jenny & Jason

WOW have I been MIA or what!!??? Well I guess then you can tell it has been a crazy summer so far and as much as I ADORE showcasing all the fabulous weddings I have shot this summer right away, alas my time has been limited and blogging hasnt been top priority.I want to finally share a wedding I shot with a fabulous team of people at a gorgeous Vineyard in Dayton, OR.  Jenny & Jason both live in Texas and wanted a destination wedding in Oregon at one of our awesome Vineyards. Why Oregon you ask? Well because Oregon is Gorgeous thats why!!! we have some of the most beautiful scenery in the US and I feel very lucky to live here and breathe our rainy but fresh air.

Allow me to give you a little background on how these two adorable people met, Jenny loves animals, she lives on a ranch in Texas, Jason comes along and delivers hay, their eyes meet, he couldnt resist but to drive all the way to Texas and deliver some more just to see her again. Yep folks you got it, they fell madly in love and I couldnt be prouder to be a part of this awesome event. Um by the way did I mention they have the best support system ever and a fabulous family!

Props to all the team of Vendors working to make this day even more awesome |

Bliss Portrait Session | Roy & Christy

Christy and Roy flew out from Ohio for their Bliss Session and I couldnt be more honored! They have been married for 9 years and wanted to celecbrate eachother. This is what truly defines a Bliss Shoot and Im so uterly tickled pink about these shoots. Christy and Ropy have three gorgeous children and have so much love in their family. I have to quote a section of an email Christy sent me about their relationship that I adore:

” The grass is as green as it gets with each other”

I love this and think thaa whether you have been married or together for 1 year or 60 years, these sessions are about your relationship with one another in pure Bliss.

On to the fabulous shoot, they met me at the wee hours of the morning before sunrise on the streets of downtown Salem and we walked around in all the nooks and crannies and captured some awesome moments of them. They wanted their shoot to sort of a walking around Salem before the world wakes up. I had such a blast! here are some of my faves from our shoot.

Portland Wedding Photographer | Sara & Jonathan

I was so excited when Sara emailed me and said we are flying to Portland and that I was their photographer for their special day! They both live in South Korea so you can say this was quit the treck for them. They chose to get married in familiar stomping grounds, Imbrie Hall and not only that they wanted their wedding to be nothing short of Awesome with a week full of family & Friends before the wedding day. They had a non-traditional wedding with splashes of vintage Portland and beautiful colors. They began at the spectacular The Ace Hotel and chose to see eachother before the wedding which I adore, because that leaves for so much play time with photos before and you can scoot right on over to party and be with your wedding guests. The details were so fun and everyone involved in the planning process did a FANTABULOUS job! Sarah & Jonathan, I love you both and wish you both infinite bliss!

Destin, Florida Wedding Photographer ~ Rachel & Drew

The air was humid, the afternoon Florida sun was bright. Rachel sat in her vanity chair looking so very calm and getting makeup and hair done by the fabulous Wendy from Pure & Couture. The calming waves from the Gulf in the background was simply to die for.  I was speechless on the stunning location and couldnt have asked for a better couple to shoot for. The day was very hot and as I mentioned very bright, so we did most of our shots indoors until the ceremony. Then ofcourse after they were officially Mr. & Mrs. we set out to the shoreline with the beautiful pink sky as the sun was setting.  I had such a blast and haveto say this was definitely up there with my fave couple vote! Thank you Rachel & Drew for making me feel so welcome and sharing this completely awesome day with me! I know you had a blast on your secretly planned honeymoon (yes folks, Drew planned a secret fabulous honeymoon to Mexico)!!  Love you both!

Monday Q&A Part II

Wow has it really been 3 weeks since my last Q&A? my goal was to do these every 2 weeks and for that I apologize but I have an excuse… shooting like a mad women! :) Its been an awesome few weeks with so many fabulous shoots and weddings to share very soon! But first I thought I’d do another Q&A to hopefully help those out there that need it. Nope not saying I’m just super rad and all but when I get questions from clients, other photographers, etc.. I feel like I should share them, so here it goes…

And THANKS so much for the awesome questions, if you dont see yours here, just keep an eye out on future posts.

Question:

“Your images seem so crisp and clear, I am struggling with getting my photos like that, could you explain the editing process or in camera settings you use to get your shots like that?”

Emily S.

Answer:

Emily, Thanks so much for your question!  As I mentioned in the last Q&A, practice makes perfect and just getting out there and playing with your settings and also different lenses is a great way to find your shooting style. In order to get crisp images, it really hasto do with the right lighting, the right lense and maybe a little bump in the sharpening settings in your camera. Its easier for me to show you with photos, the first photo is SOOC (straight out of Camera) with no editing done what so ever, the second image I adjusted the curves 5% for a little jump and adjusted the contrast +12 because I wanted to get a higher contrast for this particular photo. for the more technical notes on this photo, I used a Nikon 50mm at f/2.5 ISO 200 and shot at 10am during the day.  I love my Nikon 50mm, its the Lens I use probably 90% of the time on Portrait sessions. layout

Question:

“This may be a dumb question to you but I was wondering how you go about packaging your Products? I received my album (which I lovvvvved!) and did not want to even open it because it was so beautifully packaged!”

Kristin M.

Answer:

“First off, there is never a dumb question, I believe that is how we all learn by asking questions right? Im so glad you loved your album! I have always been a stickler on packaging and can be kinda crafty and looove personalizing each of my clients packaging with their own personal flair.  I have collected my packaging products over the years but keep getting new products as I see them. The albums always come to me in their own boxes, I just add some flair to it when it arrives and I send it to my clients. A great place to get ribbon, tissue, or anything else that strikes your fancy is honest to God, JOanne Fabrics. I have made my own album covers with fabric that relates to my clients session or wedding as well. I truly believe that its the little touches like that, that show a little something extra for your clients.

I also make sure to send thank you notes as well as Anniversary cards for their one year for all of my couples and sometimes a little something extra, because again its those little things that truly make your branding stand out even more.”

Thanks again for all your questions! Keep em coming!

Cheers!

Deyla

July 5, 2010 - 8:23 pm Jessica Parker - Deyla, Your photography is gorgeous, and I am in awe of your talent. I'm probably what you would call an "aspiring photographer". I've done a few senior photo sessions, an engagement, a family photo shoot. I am in the process of putting together a photography business. Website under construction, business cards in the works, trying to figure out how in the world to create a logo... Anyway. I was just curious if you had any recommendations or advice on making it as a successful photographer. Maybe what lenses you use most often? How did you start out? Who do you order your prints from? Is it nerve wracking to shoot a wedding? Have you ever had another photographer come with and shadow to see your technique? I understand that you're a very busy woman. But, if you have the time, I would LOVE to hear from you. Sincerely, Jessica
