I would like to kick off this gorgeous Monday morning with something I have been very excited to post and I highly suggest you grab a cup of coffee and sit back and enjoy!
I was truly honored when I was asked by Amy Wenzel to try out her new Photoshop Action set before she kicks off her new baby at Swiss Miss Design Haus. After going through them, I was loving every single one of them! I am always pretty light on the editing in Photoshop but when I do I make sure they are adjusted to exactly how I want my image to be, never at 100%. I was not hesitant to try these out at all because of the beautiful imagery she creates with her Children & Senior Portrait Photography and absolutely LOVED the Action Set she has created!
We did a little interview of Miss Amy so you all could get to know her a bit better and REMEMBER don’t miss out on the rules on how to enter the contest below!
Let’s get started by telling
everyone how it all began for Amy Wenzel and Swiss Miss Design Haus?
One year into my photography business I decided I wanted to start
designing digital card templates. At the time I didn’t even know how to put a
rectangular border around a photograph in Photoshop, but I was determined. I
sat down and figured it out. After several months of experimenting and teaching
myself how to design I had created an entire card line. It kept growing from
there until I was offering numerous other products, and most recently my
Photoshop action set to help other photographers with their photo editing.
How would you describe your
Style of Photography?
I think my style is fresh and fun. I’m very interested in fashion so it
always has that element in it as well. When people see my photos I want them to
think they were taken out of a kids clothing catalog.
What motivates you on a daily
basis?
I am driven by the need for authenticity and excellence in all that I
do. I want to use the talents God has given me and take them to their fullest
potential in every area of my life. In my business I am especially driven by
the need for a true creative expression of my vision and the ability to make a
successful living doing what I love.
When you are editing a
Session, what music is playing in the background?
I’m usually listening to praise and worship music. I especially love
Jesus Culture, Martha Munizzi, Mary Alessi, Rita Springer, Kari Jobe, Jenn
Johnson and Misty Edwards.
Do you include prints,
Products or digital negatives in your Portrait Packages?
I try to keep my pricing and products as simple and straight forward as
possible to make it less overwhelming for my clients and easier for my
work-flow. I offer prints in standard finish only, as well as canvas prints and
a few basic collages. I also offer one contemporary album type. I do offer the
digital rights for the whole session to my clients, but I’ve priced it on the
high end since it caps my sale.
What keeps you moving during
this rough economy and “couponing” era?
In a difficult economy you need to stand out from your competitors. I
believe in the phrase “Jack of all trades, master of none” so I’ve
worked hard to carve a niche for myself doing only portrait work that has a
very specific style to it. By staying true to my artistic vision and not just
catering to what I think the market wants, I’ve honed my strengths as a
photographer and inevitably stand out amongst the crowd. Striving for
excellence and integrity in my business has earned me loyal clients that are
still coming back to me five years later. 75% of my yearly bookings are repeat
business. I’m so thankful for their business and referrals!
What is your favorite thing to
do when you’re not working?
I love going to the beach, doing jig saw puzzles, or just spending time
praying and going for walks. Hanging with my husband and family is also at the
top of the list! All my nieces and nephews are a riot! They say the funniest things.
What is your favorite
“trick” for kids to enjoy their portrait session with you?
I just try to be fun and cheery and make them feel special. I think
they enjoy having my undivided attention. People say I remind them of a
kindergarten teacher when I’m doing shoots. For posing tricks I like to play Simon Says.
I absolutely Love your love
story with David, could you tell everyone about how you two met and 5 words to
describe your relationship?
David and I met almost 10 years ago. He went to college with my little
brother and I went down there to visit for a weekend. I saw the fabulous David
Wenzel up on the stage hosting a student talent show and I became intrigued. He
also saw me in the crowd and wanted to meet me. My brother later set us up on a
blind date and the rest was history! We dated long distance for several yearsand were married in 2005.
Five words to describe our relationship? Hmm….humorous, out of the
box, memorable, committed and affectionate.
What is your favorite Sweet treat?
I looooove chocolate cupcakes. I could eat all 24 in the pan. Great,
now I’m craving them.
Could you tell us how your new baby Amy Wenzel Photoshop Actions came to rise?
The past winter I had some down time and decided to start experimenting with
writing actions. I quickly became addicted and didn’t want to stop! I realized
it would not only speed up my workflow to having everything I do to my photos
in an action, but it would be something useful for other photographers as well.
I’m so glad i stuck with it and created the whole set. I’m loving using them
and the positive feedback I’ve received has been tremendous!
