Wedding season is apon us and I dont know about you but Im super stoked! I adore shooting weddings and get REALLY ansy until my first one of the year. I remember my first year in business, heck even the first couple of years, I really struggled with finding creative and different ways to pose the couple during their formals. I mean seriously its almost like we go into default mode and say ok just stand right there and smile; Click! or give your bride a kiss; Click! And because of how little time is usually given for the Bride & Groom formals, its just gets done and not alot of time for creativity and REALLY focus on the new Mr. & Mrs.
I received a question from Molly that I wanted to touch on in this weeks Margarita Monday post;
“Where do you get your inspiration for posing? One of my issues is that I freeze up during formals and I blank on ideas. Any tips?”
I am fashion magazine addict, I think I have subscriptions to every single one out there, I flip through the pages, stop at a beautiful piece with a couple and I fall in love and paste the pages all over my walls. If I see a pose or two I’m in love with and think it would fit with the bride and groom Im working with, Ill try it. Once that begins with the couple, I get the rest of my inspiration from the couple themselves, watch how they interact with one another and just simply start shooting. As I posted HERE, I really aim to capture their love for another and shoot in tight for most of my shots. Then I grab some more fashion forward poses and call it good.
Here are some examples |
These both are from a Wedding styled shoot that I did last year, I have the bride coming up from behind the groom and hold him tight as he holds her bouquet for her, the right photo has them trading sides withi him behind whispering sweet nothings to her 🙂 as you will notice you get something sweet with both poses.
I had the groom sit up on the top of the back of the bench in the dug out and asked her to move in close to him and this is what I got 🙂
I wanted to take advantage of this beautiful home they were married at in Destin, Florida and moved some furniture around a bit and placed them in a more fashion forward pose.
for this series of shots, I wanted them to just simply interact with one another, he was telling her how beautiful she is and how lucky he is, and her reaction was below.
I simply wanted her to “cuddle” up with him and he held her and I think it turned out very GQ 🙂
Simply hold your wife and close your eyes
Have a fabulous Monday!!!
XO
