Hi Lovelies! I am FINALLY sitting down to blog this seriously awesome experience photographing the COVER and 6-page feature of the current issue of Oregon Bride Magazine! To say I was excited to be commissioned to do this is an understatement! And I would love to share with you my experience throughout the whole process.
When I received the original email from the very talented and sweet Amanda Hill who is the Art Director on this particular issue, I was beyond thrilled and at the same time surprised as there are so many talented photographers from all over that have been asked to do this in past issues. I was honored and completely up to the task and told my self “seriously why are you so nervous? you deserve this and can TOTALLY do this!”
Photographing Bridal fashion of any kind has been my jam for a while now and am obsessed with it, so when I get asked to photograph a Look Book for a designer or photograph a magazine spread, Im all over that and jump on the planning! Photographing pretty things on gorgeous people or couples is what dreams are made of right? Well it is for me especially when I am involved in the styling and art direction of the shoot. I could seriously photograph fashion editorial every single day and be perfectly content!
So getting back to the always amazing Oregon Bride Magazine, I had no idea of how or what I was shooting up until a few weeks of the shoot and I was super nervous not being in the know but knew that Amanda Hill was going to do a fabulous job on art direction and styling by Sarah Mansfield. They told me we were shooting a bridal makeup and hair feature and we were featuring several of Oregon’s top makeup and hair professionals! Yes! and when I heard we were working with some of my industry friends, I was even more excited because I knew it would be absolutely PERFECT!
When I arrived at the studio, I walked around preparing the studio for what I knew was going to be an insanely busy and crazy wonderful day. Bringing the fans in, start the music, and get all of my gear out and make sure everything is ready to go. Setting up tables and chairs for each hair and makeup artist and space for the models and their gowns. As the awesome team of professionals started flowing in, I knew it was almost time to turn up the music and start getting myself mentally ready, HA! We had 4 hair and makeup teams come in as well as a stylist, assistant, Art Director, Senior Editor, 4 models…. feeeeewwww it was getting all crazy up in here! Each Model got a different look for bridal makeup and hair showcasing a classically natural look on our beautiful cover model Alyssa, a romantic braided updo and flowing tresses on the lovely model Clara, a stunning updo on our stunning model Michelle and a Platinum glam look and updo on our beautiful model Claire. Our Stylist brought us several different wedding gowns for the shoot including designs from English Department, Divine Designs and Merrime Bride and Soiree.
If you have ever worked a full day shooting for a magazine then you know you run on adrenaline and once you here the words “thats a wrap!” there is an overabundance of joy and satisfaction in knowing this day went good, this day went REAL good. And next was getting these images to the magazine and waiting for what seemed like the longest few months in history to see what images they decide to use for the cover and the inside feature. And what a great way to see the cover than at the wedding Industry’s favorite party of the year; The Oregon Bride Magazine Best of Party! Everyone seriously rocked it and I couldn’t have worked with a better team and hope to do this again real soon!
