Maddie and Henry had their wedding world changed drastically amongst many other couples as 2020 took a turn for the worst. But despite everything, they still wanted to be married, and cut their guest list down to the maximum during our current Covid regulations. Despite these changes, that truly didn’t get either of them down, Maddie and Henry were so calm and truly amazing to work with throughout the new changes. They held their ceremony at Henry’s family church in Portland Heights and then continued their celebration at Waverly Country Club. The beautiful classic details throughout were still important and so beautifully designed. They also had custom masks made for their guests to really remember this day. Although they couldn’t have a full dance floor, they elegantly held a 4-course dinner for their guests including a custom monogramed ice bowl with sorbet by PDX Ice. Such a beautiful celebration through and through and I cannot wait for their celebration part two this year!

A little background to Maddie & Henry
How did you two meet?
We met through some friends at a birthday party. One of my friends from college went to the same high school as Henry, just a couple classes below him, but she was friends with people in his class. She ended up taking me to a birthday party in Portland where I met Henry. We exchanged phone numbers that night and then went on a date a few days later.
Tell me about your first date?
We went to a movie at Bridgeport Village. However, we got there really early before the movie started, so we had to figure out what to do. It was also too early to go to dinner, so Henry asked me if we should go into Barnes and Noble and look at books and I laughed because I thought it was a funny thing to do on a first date. We ended up getting coffee instead and talking there. Then we saw a chick flick – Me Before You. Henry grabbed my hand within minutes of the movie starting and we held hands and cuddled the whole time. We ended up hanging out 2 days after our first date and then more and more…We still always laugh whenever we see Barnes and Noble though.
When you both have a day off together, what do you guys like to do?
We like to travel, hang out with friends, play tennis, bocce ball, occasionally run together (I try to keep up with him), ski, cook and find new things to do around Portland. We love to find new places to go to – we went to Europe for the first time together earlier this year and we also go to the coast and central Oregon a lot. We also love to cook dinner together every night after work. On the weekends, we try to stay active by working out, tennis, bocce ball, hiking and other random activities outside, especially if it’s nice outside.
What do you love most about Henry?
He is the most loyal person I have ever met, he takes pride in everything he does, he makes me feel like the prettiest girl in the world even when I am sweating and red as a tomato, he’s goofy when he dances (not afraid to be himself in an scenario) and he makes me excited about everything in our future. We have had some hard times, but we have always been by each other’s side and I wouldn’t want to share that with anyone else. I miss him even when we have only been away from each other for an hour because I just get so excited to be around him.
What do you love most about Maddie?
I love coming home to her everyday and always being entertained by her crazy work stories. She can have the worst day and still be able to see some positive in the situation. I love that she cares about what I think so much and I love the feeling I get when I am having a tough day an I see her smiling face. Maddie has always cared so much about my life and I know we can get through anything together.
What is a funny/romantic story you would like to share?
As I briefly described above, we have a weird inside joke about book stores now ever since our first date. I think I have him the weirdest look he’s ever seen when he asked me to go one and now we literally laugh whenever we see any book store. Henry also goes out of his way to leave special things at home for me if he knows I have had a tough day, or even a really good day…he knows to bring ice cream home on those days.
